I’m not comfortable with skin show: Pranitha

Pranitha Subhash’s Saguni has just hit the screens and the actor is all excited. “I play a city -based girl, who is simple, sweet and innocent. I could relate to this character because it is a bit like what I am in real life. There was an inordinate delay in the release of the film because of the strike in the Tamil film industry. Also because there are a lot of artists in the film and matching their dates took time,” says the actor.

Talking about her experience working withKarthi, Pranitha says, “Karthi is amazing to work with. He’s a superb actor and a very friendly person. He makes sure everyone around him is comfortable. He’s very experienced and also very well organised when it comes to his work. Hence it was also a learning experience for me.”
Since Pranitha has worked in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada cinema, which will be her priority?
“All the three industries are of equal priority to me as I am working with some of the most talented people across these three industries,” says she. Will Pranitha be comfortable with skin show, if a role demanded? “I’m not very comfortable with skin show,” she says.

Actress Shruti Hassan opposite Jiiva?

Now that is almost confirmed that Jiiva will replace Vijay in Seeman's comeback venture 'Pagalavan', a hunt is on for the heroine. "Shruti Haasan is likely to play the female lead," says a source.
"Seeman is keen to have Jiiva and Shruti on board, as he feels that the two actors will fit well the characters he has penned. While Jiiva has already been signed, attempts are on to rope in Shruti," says the source.
To be produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, 'Pagalavan', a socio-action entertainer, which is expected to take a dig at loopholes in the system. In Seeman's own words, it is about the inaccessibility to proper education.
In a recent interview, the director said, "Pagalavan is about problems faced by the people. It's about the inaccessibility to quality education. The theme of the movie is 'education is for people'."

Kollywood turns to suicide

It’s struggle. It’s victory. It’s money. It’s poverty. It’s love. It’s failure. It’s insecurity. Surviving in any film industry takes a lot of emotional and physical strength.

But some people have not been so fortunate to have made it – in life. And the Tamil film industry is no exception. Kollywood too has lost numerous talented people to suicide.
No one can forget the sex symbol of the 80s, Silk Smitha. The original ‘item girl’, who’s being celebrated today on-screen, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house in 1996. Her professional and personal life saw its share of ups and downs that finally resulted in her succumbing to the pressures of life. But she’s not the only actor who couldn’t cope.
Talented National Award-winning actress, Shobha, died at the tender age of 17. Having started off as a child artist, she married director Balu Mahendra only to be ‘snatched from his life’. The actress, who should have lived a celebrated life, disappeared instead. Was her death driven by love or some other factor?
‘Fatafat’ Jayalakshmi’s suicide, however, is attributed to love failure and even perhaps financial woes.
Another instance of love playing havoc is the death of Monal, Simran’s sister. This young lady, who had many films to her credit, including those of top Kollywood stars, was seeing an upward surge in her career. Her sudden suicide is again attributed to heartbreak and depression.
Love was also the reason for ‘Kozhi Koovuthu’ Viji giving up her life. Post surgery to correct her near paralytic state, the actress seemed to have a bright future. But falling in a love with a married man, and unable to legally wed him, made her meet her untimely death.
While Kollywood celebrates cinema and everything that’s larger-than-life, there’s also a side to it which shows the stark reality that all those in the industry are affected as much, and perhaps more, by loneliness, love failure, poverty, insecurity…as everyone else. And sometimes their acting and roles just extend from reel to real life…fatally.
