Thozhan moves over to Hong Kong

SA Chandrasekar directed Sattam Oru Iruttarai is being remade under the title Thozhan. The shooting of this film is fast progressing with SAC’s niece Sneha Britto helming the affairs as the director.

It may be recalled that Sattam Oru Iruttarai was remade in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam and was a super hit in all the languages. After several decades, this film is remade under the title Thozhan.

Thaman Kumar plays the male lead and the film feature three heroines – Reemma Sen, Pia and Bindu Madhavi. The latest news from the Thozhan camp is that the team will be flying down to Hong Kong for the next schedule which will begin on September 10th and go on till 30th. Vimala Britto is producing this film under the banner Esthell Entertainment with SAC supervising the venture.

Actor Arya… Vishal… Now Vikram Prabhu!

Vikram Prabhu will team up with the Engeyum Eppothum director Saravanan. The director had announced a project with Arya in the lead some months ago and this film was to be produced by Thirupati Brothers. But Arya walked out of this project due to his busy schedules and the production house tried to rope in Vishal instead. However, this effort also fizzled out with Vishal signing up Sundar C’s MGR.

Following these developments, Saravanan’s film was put on hold. But the latest buzz in Kollywood is that the director will be teaming up with Vikram Prabhu after completing Kumki. Thirupati Brothers, which is producing Kumki, will be producing this venture as well.

Mugamoodi From Aug 31

UTV Motion Pictures’s eagerly awaited Jiiva’s Mugamoodi directed by Mysskin has been cleared by the Regional Censors in Chennai with an U certificate, with some minor muting.

Mugamoodi is said to be the first super hero film in Tamil and has Jiiva, Pooja Hegde, Narain and Nassar in the lead roles. The music of K has already become popular with “Vaayamoodi Summa Iruda…” topping the charts.
UTV will release the film on Aug 31. They have been able to keep to their schedule release date announced two months back, which is rare in Tamil cinema.

Thuppaki Audio Next Month

Despite the Vijay starrer Thuppaki caught up in a legal wrangle, all works pertaining to the film is going on at breakneck speed. The film's music director Harris Jayaraj has announced recently that the film's music launch will happen during the mid-September and the audio will hit the stands around that time.

There are six tracks in this album along with a theme track, said Harris. Thuppaki is directed by AR Murugadoss who has a string of hits under his belt till now and the film stars Vijay and Kajal Agarwal as the lead pair.

It may be recalled that the film's title is sub judice with another filmmaker claiming that the title Thuppaki is so similar to his title Kalla Thuppaki.

Thillu Mullu Remake – Details Here

S Madan's Vendhar Films, which has distributed films like Saguni and Aravaan, will be producing a film for the first time. And it has taken up the Rajinikanth starrer Thillu Mullu! Yes, this comedy flick is all set for a remake and Vendhar Films will be producing the venture. The inaugural pooja of this film is scheduled to happen at the Image Auditorium in Chennai on August 24th at 8 am.

Mirchi Shiva will play the lead role in this film and Mollywood import Isha Talwar will be his heroine. Prakash Raj, Kovai Sarala, Manobala, Dr Sreenivasan, Sathyan, Ilavarasu, Brahmanandam and others are also included in the star cast.

Director Badri, who had directed films like Veerappu and Thambikku Intha Ooru, will be directing this venture. What is interesting about this project is that MS Viswanathan and Yuvan Shankar Raja will be scoring the music for this film.

Director Shankar’s ‘I’ titled as ‘Manoharadu’ in Telugu

Director Shankar’s upcoming film ‘I’ starring Vikram as the protagonist has been titled as ‘Manoharadu’ in Telugu. After considering a few suggestions, the makers have settled with this title.

Recent reports have that Shankar has registered the film’s title in Telugu as Manoharadu at Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce. The film’s Tamil title means beauty, king, guru, astonishment, while in the Telugu title means handsome guy.
‘I’ has the super hit combination of Shankar and Vikram, who have worked together earlier in ‘Anniyan’ which was released under the title ‘Aparichitudu’ in Telugu. Apart from Vikram ‘I’ has Amy Jackson, comedian Santhanam, Malayalam star Suresh Gopi, and Ramkumar (Sivaji Ganesan’s eldest son) in key roles.
The film has outstanding technical crew onboard. Oscar and Grammy award winner AR Rahman will compose the tunes, while veteran PC Sreeram will handle the lens work. As usual, a few Hollywood technicians are working on this project for the visual effects. The film is touted to be a romantic thriller and is being produced by Aascar Ravichandran under Aascar Films Productions pvt ltd.

Actor Vidyut’s take on Vijay

People might consider actor Vijay to be a shy guy, who magically transforms into a livewire in front of the camera. However, his colleagues feel otherwise. Vidyut Jamwal, who impressed everyone with his performance in Billa 2, is also playing the bad guy once again in the Vijay-starrer Thuppaki.

He says, “Honestly, Vijay is the most chilled-out person I have met. We have had long conversations about scenes and shots.”
Talking more about his role in Thuppaki, Vidyut says, “I love shooting action sequences and this movie too, will have intense action scenes. It was an absolute pleasure to work with people like Vijay and director A.R. Murugadoss.”

Actor Ram Charan’s Nayak Movie First Look

The first look of Ram Charan Teja’s forthcoming film ‘Nayak’ has been launched by its makers. The film is a commercial entertainer being directed by VV Vinayak with Kajal Agarwal and Amala Paul as the female leads.

The film has Ram Charan playing dual roles. The crew has completed filming two schedules already and the third schedule will commence in Greece on the 20th of August, 2012. SS Thaman is scoring the film’s music.
Brahmanandam, Jaya Prakash Reddy, M. S. Narayana, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rahul Dev, Raghu Babu, Pradeep Rawat, ‘Sathyam’ Rajesh and Sudha form the support cast. Cinematography is handled Chota K Naidu, while Akula Shiva has penned the story and screenplay.
D.V.V. Danayya is producing the film under Universal Media banner and will be released on the day of Sankranthi in 2013.

Actor Suriya shares his success formula

Suriya in a recent interview talked about Maattrraan and also revealed his success formula for picking winning scripts. About Maattrraan, the actor said that a lot of computer graphics were used and a lot of test shoots had to be done. He and KV Anand almost always opted for the difficult shots as they wanted to really impress the audience. The film is almost complete and there will be no need for editing or post production.

The actor has the rare disntinction of being the darling of the critics as well as fans. When quizzed about this, Suriya revealed that he merely picks scripts that incorporate offbeat subjects with high entertainment value. He added that he has been lucky to get scripts like that.

Actor Santhanam is lucky for Vishakha!

Actress Vishakha, who is playing the lead in Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya, starring Santhanam and Power Star Srinivasan, has already signed two films, one in Malayalam and Hindi each. And she says that the deal came through while she was working with Santhanam.

She says, “I must tell Santhanam how lucky he is lucky for me, because I signed Motorcycle Diaries in Mollywood and a Vikram Bhatt film in Bollywood while working with him.”
She continues, “I got a call from Vikram Bhatt’s office for a meeting, but I was shooting for my Tamil film in Kumbakonam. And the next day, Bhattji sent me the script and asked me to go through it. I was roped in for his medical thriller without even meeting him!”
Vishakha, who plays a medical intern in the Hindi film, will start shooting for it from next month. “Thankfully, I would have wrapped up the second schedule of the Santhanam film in Chennai by then,” she smiles.

Latest updates from ‘I’ team

It’s been a long time since we have heard from team ‘I’. When we tried to contact the team, a close source updated us that they were shooting in Kasimedu. We came to know that the team consisting of Vikram is sweating it out for this 45-day schedule. We hear their day starts at 5 in the morning and goes till late night.

I features Amy Jackson, Suresh Gopi, Ramkumar Ganesan and Santhanam in pivotal roles. Shankar is also hunting for another heroine, probably from the north, for the film. AR Rahman, who has a number of projects in hand including Kadal, Kochadaiyaan, Mariyaan, Yohan and Thuppariyum Anandhan, is composing tunes for I too and ace cinematographer PC Sreeram is behind the lens.

Vaalu to wrap up faster

Young Superstar Silambarasan is not leaving any stone unturned with his upcoming film ‘Vaalu’. The film is produced by SS Chakravarthy of Nic Arts and is directed by Vijay Chander.  

Hansika Motwani stars opposite Simbhu in female lead role with Santhanam and VTV Ganesh ready to tickle your funny bones with their humour quotients. The shooting commenced before couple of months and the young superstar is taking scrutinizing efforts over completing the project as soon as possible as he is planning to release it for Diwali.
Recently, the second schedule was completed and Simbhu has flown down to Mumbai for shooting the climax song for his other film ‘Poda Podi’ that has Varalakshmi Sarathkumar romancing him. The actor was earlier shooting for ‘Vettai Mannan’, which is temporarily shelved and will resume once STR is done with these projects.

'Vizhithidu Nenje...' says Rahman for Dhanush

That A R Rahman is scoring music for a Dhanush starrer ('Mariyaan') for the first time is known to many. The unknown thing is that the Oscar winner, besides composing the tunes, has also lent his voice.
"Rahman has crooned the number 'Vizhithidu Nenje...' and it has come very good. The maestro's voice has done the much needed magic to the song," say sources in the know.
They add: "The number was recently shot on the lead pair- Dhanush and Parvathy- and the visuals were extraordinary. Rahman's composition and the way the song has been canned will make it stand out from the list."
Produced by Aascar Ravichandran, 'Mariyaan' is directed by Bharat Bala, who shares a close rapport with Rahman. In fact, it was this duo (Rahman and Bharat Bala) who gave us 'Vandemataram' in 1997.

Mugamoodi to Arrive With Settai!

Yet another surprise for movie buffs from UTV Motion Pictures! Mugamoodi is all set for release on August 31st and Settai’s teaser will be released along with this film. Mugamoodi, directed by Mysskin, stars Jiiva and Pooja Hegde as the lead pair. It is touted to be the first superhero film in Tamil, which has upped the expectation levels among the movie buffs.

Its release turned even more exciting with G Dhananjayan Chief – South Film Business, Disney-UTV announcing that Settai’s teaser will be released along with Mugamoodi. Settai is directed by Kannan and stars Arya, Anjali, Hansika, Santhanam and Premji Amaren.

Actress Vedhika reveals about Paradesi

Vedhika, one of the leading ladies in the Bala directed Paradesi, has revealed that she will be seen without any make-up in the film. The actress stated that this film is set in the pre-independence era and the director wanted a very natural look and therefore forbade her from wearing make-up.
She is so excited about the film, particularly because she got the opportunity to act in a Bala film, which is the dream of every actor and actress.
Disclosing this much, Vedhika refused to go into more details as she is forbidden to discuss the film until Bala gives her the go-ahead.

Happy Birthday Director Shankar

One of the most successful directors in the Indian film industry, Shankar is celebrating his birthday today, August 17th, 2012. He entered the film industry as a director with Gentleman and this film turned out to be grand success at the box office raking in profits as well as awards.

Since then, Shankar has directed and produced a number of films. The smash hits in his long career include Kadhalan, Mudhalvan, Anniyan, Sivaji, Enthiran and Nanban. Shankar is also a shrewd producer having produced a number of blockbusters like Kadhalan, Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi and Veyyil. He is currently directing the Vikram starrer I and is awaiting the release of the 3D version of Sivaji.

I’m a very secure person: Lakshmi Rai

There is nothing more fascinating than a woman of mystery. Lakshmi Rai is smiling and why? She is at peace and is quietly doing her work.

We caught up with the actress who is in Chennai for the audio launch of Thaandavam, in which she shares screen space with Anushka and Amy Jackson
On why she accepted the role in Thaandavam, she says: “I liked the script and my role in it. I can make an effort to be part of the right project but if something goes wrong with it, that’s fine. Do your best and accept what follows, is my policy. I am a very secure person despite working in a highly competitive world”.
On why she hasn’t made too many friends in film industry, Lakshmi shoots: “Look, I’m here to do a job. After work, I have my own life I am not here to make friends. To be honest, I’ve met up with people whom I immensely respect. I’ve known all the girls in the industry and there are all very nice, though friendship takes time to develop”.
Being surrounded by good-looking, powerful and dynamic men, surely love can’t wait to knock on the doors? Lakshmi gives a naughty smile: “No.. I’m single and where is the time for love?

Actress Trisha, Nayanthara & Tamannaah at Santosham awards in Hyderabad

The impossible finally seems to have happened. Three top divas of south cinema- Trisha, Nayanthara and Tamannaah bonded big time at Santosham awards in Hyderabad on Sunday (Aug 12) night.

The three beautiful girls have it all- The looks, talent and that special knack of stealing the show. These competitors, big budget survivors and glam girls were seen giggling and whispering into each other’s ears during the function.
Nayanthara seem to be on a roll after winning accolades and several prestigious awards for her role as Sita in Sri Ramarajyam. And it was nice to see her go out of her way to wait for good friend Tammannaah, as she was following her car. A little birdie tells us that the girls had planned to walk in together at the awards.Nayan and Trisha bagged the award from Ulaganayakan Kamal Haasan while Tamannaaah received her award from Balakrishna. All the three were spotted dressed the traditional way in sari and Anarkali. The buzz is that the girls left the venue together in one car to catch up with all the girly talks. Truly an inspiration to the newcomers in the industry, we should say!

Actress Karthika in London School of Economics


If you think 'Ko' girl Karthika is focusing on her acting career alone, you are wrong. The actress is simultaneously doing a business degree through correspondence from the London School of Economics.
"I always love to learn new things and being the eldest kid of the family, I have to take care of our (hotel) family business. In fact, before entering into acting, I was a sincere student," Karthika says.
The daughter of yesteryear top heroine Radha adds: "But this doesn't mean that I will not concentrate on acting. I will sail on both the boats without rocking either of them."
Karthika is on the verge of finishing Bharathiraja's 'Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum'. Her father runs hotel business in Mumbai and hence, the actress is shuttling between Mumbai and Chennai to take care of her interests.
