After calling on the convicts-- Sriharan alias Murugan, Santhan and Perarivalan--at the central prison here, Mr Seeman, embarked on the yatra to Chennai along with his supporters. But he was detained when he reached Sathuvacheri, about five km from this district. As an after thought, the District police, which gave permission to Mr Seeman to take out the padyatra, detained Mr Seeman and about 300 of his supporters when they reached Sathuvacheri. Mr Seeman and his supporters began the yatra at Periyar Park at the Fort. Those detained included nine women, including Ms Arputhammal, mother of Perarivalan. Police sources said Mr Seeman was denied permission to go ahead with his padyatra to prevent any untoward incident, in the wake of Congress volunteers coming with posters, condemning the yatra and demanding the execution of death penalty to the three covicts.
