MR. & MRS. SMITH Goes Asian With Donnie Yen And Cecilia Cheun...
It's about time! After years of tackling period roles, it's good to see martial-art superstar Donnie Yen is back in the modern action role since FLASH POINT (2007). According to Channel NewsAsia, Donnie Yen will appear alongside actress Cecilia Cheung in a Hong Kong adaptation of 2005 action blockbuster MR. & MRS. SMITH, which will be re-titled as ASSASSIN COUPLE. MR. & MRS. SMITH, is of course, the blockbuster hit which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as two assassin couples who are forced to compete each other before they eventually team up to overthrow their agencies.
Despite the remake, ASSASSIN COUPLE will feature a completely different storyline from the original movie, even though there are some similarities attached. According to The New Asia Entertainment Group (AEG), Yen and Cheung will play a couple skilled in martial arts and gunplay who attempt to deal with the love-hate relationship they share at home, even as they go about their lives as professional killers.
While Yen and Cheung had previously stated they would like to take a break from acting to spend time with their families, the AEG managed to convince them otherwise after offering them a lucrative amount of paycheck. Yen will take a whopping 30 million yuan for accepting the role, while Cheung gets 15 million yuan.
Their combined fees alone have nevertheless took up almost half of the movie's 100 million yuan budget.
Filming for ASSASSIN COUPLE is expected to start rolling in March next year.
While the title is kind of mundane, I'm eager to know the "completely different storyline" approach for this Hong Kong version. Although I wouldn't be surprised if this one going for the romantic comedy route, it also very appreciated if ASSASSIN ROUTE contains more grits to suit this as an ultimate Donnie Yen's action vehicle.

DIE HARD 5 Goes Global And A Possible New Director!
The long-gestating project of DIE HARD 5 has been suffered constant setbacks after Bruce Willis announced he would like to make another two more DIE HARD movies before he retired his iconic John McClane character for good. When words are finally out that director Noam Murro attached to helm the fifth installment, with a script being written by Skip Woods, there is a glimmer of hope. But it's not until the forced departure of Murro to exit DIE HARD 5 after he is attached to direct 300 prequel XERXES.
With the current director out of the picture, there is a speculation that a possible new director might take over the fifth installment. According to Twitch, John Moore (MAX PAYNE) is being offered for the "take it-or-leave it" job. Seriously? John Moore? Hope this is not true.
In the meantime, the real plot details has finally revealed for DIE HARD 5. Unlike the previous four DIE HARD movies which occurred within the U.S. soil, the fifth installment will go global this time around. Believe it or not, DIE HARD 5 will take place largely in Russia with John McClane accompanied there by his son and the two eventually get themselves involved into a conflict with local forces.

Paradise No More! Here Comes The Havoc Of ALVIN AND THE CHIPM...
Like it or not, the first two ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS made tons of money in the U.S. box-office alone. The first movie, released in 2007, bagged $217.3 million. The second movie, ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKQUEL, released two years later, has grossed $219.6 million. So it's no surprise that the third installment was immediately greenlit. And here it is -- ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: CHIPWRECKED, which is set to hit theaters on December 15, 2011. Check out the trailer below.

Ben Stiller! Eddie Murphy! Heist Comedy! It's TOWER HEIST Pos...
Does the all-star cast featured the likes of Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Alan Alda and among others get you excited? How about the fact that this heist comedy is directed by Brett Ratner (RUSH HOUR)? Well, watch the trailer of TOWER HEIST here and judge for yourself. In the meantime, here is the poster below as well as synopsis for the movie.
Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy lead an all-star cast in Tower Heist, a comedy caper about working stiffs who seek revenge on the Wall Street swindler who stiffed them. After the workers at a luxury Central Park condominium discover the penthouse billionaire has stolen their retirement, they plot the ultimate revenge: a heist to reclaim what he took from them.
Queens native Josh Kovacs (Stiller) has managed one of the most luxurious and well-secured residences in New York City for more than a decade. Under his watchful eye, nothing goes undetected. In the swankiest unit atop Josh's building, Wall Street titan Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) is under house arrest after being caught stealing two billion from his investors. The hardest hit among those he defrauded? The tower staffers whose pensions he was entrusted to manage.
With only days before Arthur gets away with the perfect crime, Josh's crew turns to petty crook Slide (Murphy) to plan the nearly impossible...to steal what they are sure is hidden in Arthur's guarded condo. Though amateurs, these rookie thieves know the building better than anyone. Turns out they've been casing the place for years, they just didn't know it. (via Twitch)
TOWER HEIST hits theaters on November 3, 2011.

The New Movie Nora Weston's Guardian 2632
I'm not a big fan of the time travel genre, but Nora Weston launches into a tour de force arm flailing tumble down the rabbit hole of temporal fiction. While reading the book, though, I couldn't help but feel that I fall distinctly outside of the target audience of this story. Because of that, I will break this review into two parts; First will be a largely critical review of the book as a consumer of hard sci-fi... then again as someone who enjoys an awesome B-Movie action hero romp through death, blood and violence. The plot summary goes as following: Dr. Zane Grayson is head of a time travel agency whose purpose seems to be temporal purification. Zane and a small army of genetically altered supermen travel into the past on missions to make sure that events unfold the way they were supposed to. While indulging in an illicit habit of his, browsing time or "time surfing", Zane stumbles upon something that causes him to reconsider his place both in space and time.
In retrospect, Guardian 2632's plot doesn't actually feel like a time-travel plot. In my opinion, the story of Dr. Zane Grayson could have been told without any wormholed traipses into the past at all. Maybe It's just because time machines are such a mark of high science fiction that the author couldn't help herself... I blame H.G. Wells. Let me give a fairly concrete example of what I'm talking about. There is a point in the book where Zane is forced to spend some length of time in the year 2632. There is a sense of urgency in the good Doctor as he frets about getting back to the past in time to prevent some impending doom. Except for vague references to rules set out by Dr. Grayson himself, this drama is artificial. He should be able to return to the past the moment after he had previously left.
Coming in at just over 200 pages, my next criticism is that the book tries to do too much in too few pages. I could easily see the book expanded out to twice its page count. It would help the suspension of disbelief quite a lot to see the various explicitly named gadgets explained out through a combination of exposition and plot rather than as a bullet point in the glossary at the end of the book. Let's hear a little history about StaticAirVI or give us a flashback to the smart alec quantum computer's first steps with its version of Dr. Chandra. Finally, I get that love at first sight is a reasonable plot device... and coupled with being at the right place at a right time (literally)... mad crazy love can result. I would have really liked to have seen more expression and introspection from Dr. Grayson and his main love interest.
Anyway... enough of the negative nancyness... let's talk about what I liked about the book. Weston shows a lot of creativity and doesn't get shy about writing punch-in-the-face action. Also.. as an Asian-American, it's nice to see stories focused on one of my peeps. Yellow Pride! Looking for a little terror? Just imagine super-inhuman scaly skinned Time-Mercs popping out of thin air to take you out; muscular giant gila monsters of the future... and they'll stop at nothing to have your squishy bits dripping through their claws... yeah. terror.
There's also something awesome about rampaging into the past without care for the consequences. It's like that classic Simpson's episode where Homer ends up mucking up his future via his time traveling toaster. Nothing tickles the asskick funnybone like futuristic beam weapons melting 20th century concrete. Nothing.
Oh, Katie! Nora Weston's world? Coke is good. Pepsi is bad. Thought you should know!
Asin Is Partying Hard With The Housefull 2 Gang
"Ever since they worked together in 'Heyy Babyy', 'Housefull' and now 'Housefull 2', the boys are pretty much a gang in itself as they spend a lot of time together even when they are not shooting together for a film," says another close acquaintance of the gang, "Especially when they are shooting abroad, they end up dining and partying together whenever time permits. Now the new member welcomed into the gang is Asin."
"It was Asin's 'bindaas' nature that helped her bond well with boys. She is a very friendly and a down to earth fun girl. But more than that she has a great sense of humour," says a unit member. No wonder, Riteish too found a good companion at work and was happy to tweet - 'It was absolutely fantastic working with ASIN. Rarely u come across girls with great sense of humour! She was part of d Boy Gang.'
Asin is glad that she found a good friend in Riteish. "He is a wonderful human being and a great friend. The entire unit cast and crew were lovely. I am glad to have made so many friends.

Sameera Reddy Is Desperate To Be In A Relationship Like Saifeena
One can well understand what must have touched Sameera's heart strings. After all there was a time when she was deeply in love but now that she is single; she isn't quite exploring the town hunting for boys.
"Do you have any suggestions for me", laughs Sameera, "I am open to dating but then I am shying away from the filmy types. One day you are so much in love and the next day you are fighting it out on national television. Sorry boss, not my taste; I refuse to be part of such mud sledging. I am fine with outsiders coming to me, proving their worth and proposing me. They just need to have guts to do that."
Sameera's passive approach towards love isn't pleasing her mom and sister much. They have been pushing her to move away from spending time just by herself and instead find an eligible guy out there.
"No thank you but I am happy exploring the world and travelling all by myself", she smiles, "I have told my mom and sisters that if they are so concerned about me, they can go and find a good boy themselves. But puhleeze, I am not worried about being single. I am happy the way I am."

Dan Abnett Interview, plus prizes!
Cluster: One Ghost and Two Sheep MeetToday we get to sit down and talk with author Dan Abnett, a highly esteemed Warhammer 40,000 fiction author. Among his works are the incredibly awesome Gaunt's Ghosts series, novels about the Horus Heresy, and the screenplay for the Ultramarines movie. He also has written numerous comics for Marvel and DC and comes with a list of credentials longer than your arm and twice as impressive. Unless you have like a robot arm or something, oh sorry, I forget myself at times. Anyway, Richard and I are fething thrilled to be interviewing Dan today who is a living legend in the field.
And a big thank-you to Dan for being so cooperative and patient with us. Now as you probably noticed there is in fact a prize giveaway. Dan has been gracious enough to donate a signed copy of his latest book, Embedded, as a prize for this interview. Now it may not be 40k material, but it's a science fiction story about soldiers in the near future so if you're a fan of Gaunt and his Ghosts, you'll probably like this book too. Now to be eligible for this prize you must do the following.
Leave a comment on this interview with the following two pieces of information:
1. A valid e-mail address.2. Your favorite character from any of Abnett's books. (And preferably a little as to why.)
The polls will close on Thursday, 4th of August, 2011 at 11:59 PM Eastern Standard time. Double your chances to win by following our blog. Winner will be randomly selected and announced the next day, or Saturday at the latest if work gets in the way. Again a big thank you to Dan and I encourage everyone to pick up one of his books. Except for maybe Katie. They've got no smut in them so she'd just get bored. Everyone else should read them, though.
