Venkat Prabhu confirms his next with Surya-Ravi Teja


We have earlier reported that Venkat Prabhu would direct Surya and Telugu actor Ravi Teja in his next flick. Now, the filmmaker himself has confirmed that the duo is starring in his forthcoming bilingual movie.

The Mankatha director has said that Surya has given a nod for the project and he is yet to narrate the complete story, as he is still penning the script. Venkat Prabhu assures that the movie will have a lot of fun and it will be a new genre for the Tamil audience.
Venkat Prabhu adds that other than Surya and Ravi Teja, no other cast has been finalised. However, the technical crew, which worked in his earlier movies, like Yuvan Shankar Raja will be joining hands with him again.

Mani Ratnam signs Mohan Babu’s daughter Lakshmi Manchu


It is a well known fact that ace director Mani Ratnam is all set to begin his next project, tentatively titled as Pookadai, soon in Nagercoil. Yesteryear hero Karthik’s son Gautham will make his Kollywood debut through this project while Radha’s daughter Thulasi or Sonam Kapoor is likely to play the female lead. Now the latest buzz is that director has signed Telugu star Mohan Babu’s daughter Lakshmi Manchu to play a prominent role in the film. However it is still unknown what role she will play in this flick.
Reportedly Pookadai is a romantic musical set in the coastal regions of Rameshwaram. Veteran cinematographer Rajeev Menon and music director A.R. Rahman will reportedly be a part of this project.

Genelia’s four-day wedding


Sources from Bollywood say that Genelia and Riteish Deshmukh have been requesting friends to keep their dates from late January to early February free. It is reported that the couple will tie the knot the on February 5th (date subject to change) and want their celebrity friends to attend it without fail.
It will be a four day wedding replete with the Mehendi and Sangeet. Genelia and Riteish have kept their relationship a low-key affair despite rumors about it making to the press on and off. An official announcement on the wedding from the couple is yet to come.

An icing on the cake, says Amala Paul


Amala Paul is extremely thrilled because the audio launch of two of her films will happen in the same week. While Vettai’s audio launch will happen on December 16th, Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal’s audio will be released on December 18th.
The actress calls it as the icing on the cake as two important events are scheduled in the same week. Amala Paul plays Atharva’s leading lady in Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal and in Vettai she shares the screen space with Arya, Madhavan and Sameera Reddy.

Mouna Guru Movie Online – Preview


‘Mouna Guru’ has been creating a speculation right from the day posters of the film released with its hero, Arulnidhi, sporting a T-shirt with the words, I’m not weird I’m gifted. Now the film is complete and gearing up for a release.

Arulnidhi is all set with his third film titled ‘Mouna Guru’, which from the trailers and posters that have released, seems to be a different film in the making. One thing is clear from the trailers; the attitude of the hero is going to be steadfast in this movie. The film sees Arulnidhi as Karunakaran in titular role with Iniya as Aarthi, both playing his lady love.
The film is directed by Shantha Kumar who is debuting as director with this film. There is also a new choreographer, Dinesh, who is being introduced through this film. The film is set in Chennai. It revolves around a college crowd, an accident and what happens from then on. ‘Mouna Guru’ belongs to the action thriller genre, and Arulnidhi has revealed that this film will take him to the next level.
Iniya plays a subtle and simple girl-nextdoor in this film. The film is produced by MK Tamilarasu, and music is by Thaman. Lyrics have been penned by Na. Muthukumar and Karthik. The film is all set to hit theatres on December 16.

Aravaan Movie Online – Preview


Making period movies is no easy task. But filmmakers like Vasanthabalan could be an exemption to this, for he managed to capture even the busy Ranganathan Street with all its liveliness in his last venture ‘Angadi Theru’, which is tougher than making a period film.
Gaining strength from the movie’s success and the appreciations it won from all sides, the former associate of director Shankar has started ‘Aravaan’, a film set in the backdrop of rural Tamil Nadu in the 18th century.
Produced by T Siva of Amma Creations, the film has Aadhi of ‘Mirugam’ and ‘Eeram’ fame in the lead role, with Dhanshika (of ‘Peranmai and ‘Maanja Velu’) and Mollywood import Archana Kavi as heroines.
Pasupathy is playing an all-important negative role in ‘Aravaan’, based on a critically acclaimed novel, while the film marks popular singer Karthik taking the avatar of as a music composer for the first time.
“Aravaan means an all-powerful person, who possesses 32 features in him. He is capable of doing anything. Aadhi is tailor-made for the role since he is the Hrithik Roshan of Tamil cinema,” says Vasanthabalan.

Vallinam faces problems during shooting


The film which was originally titled as Acham Thavir was later changed to Vallinam, directed by Eeram fame Arivazhagan Venkatachalam with Nakul and Mridula in the lead.

The film is said to revolve around sports. First the makers of the film ran into crowd trouble with students attempting to get autographs from Nakul when he was preparing for the shoot, they were subsequently prevented in doing so from the crew of the film prompting a student protest.
Also it’s heard that the team worked for 72 hours without break for a particular scene which was shot near the Chengalpet railway station.
Now they say that shooting is going in high speed without any problems. Vallinam is produced by Aascar Ravichandran. It has music by Thaman S and cinematography handled by Vijay Ulaganathan

During the shooting of Mankatha, it was reported that Ajith involved himself in risky car drives and bike chases. By temperament Thala is a fierce fighter, both on and off the screen. It was he who extorted the boldness to finger those threatened for the film festival of the former CM Karunanidhi.

Of late there are news about his upcoming project Billa 2. Ajith is very keen to shape this film on more spices than the earlier version. According to the sources of the unit, many sequences involving him has no doubles. Ajith himself took shots of risky nature which mesmerized the unit. Ajith intends to portray his very nature of realistic approach to the scenes.
Director Chakri Toleti was otherwise worried that nothing untoward should happen. Because the film is moving on a smooth surface. Of course, Ajith has sung the idea, Vilayudu Vilayudu Vazhum Varaikkum Vilayadu.

Velayudham still running in a good number of cinema halls


Vijay’s Deepavali gift to his fans ‘Velayudham’ has completed its 50-day run in the box-office. Claimed as one of the biggest hits of the Ilayathalapathy, the film is still running in a good number of cinema halls.
Says a trade analyst, “Velayudham came at a right time when Vijay’s fans were waiting for a commercial hit. In the recent past, Velayudham can be claimed as the biggest grosser for Vijay. The initial days saw repeat-audience.”
Produced by Aascar V Ravichandran and directed by ‘Jayam’ M Raja, ‘Velayudham’ has Hansika Motwani and Genelia D’ Souza as heroines. Says a Vijay fan, “The film was a Deepavali dhamaka for us. It had everything we expect out of a Thalapathy movie.”
Vijay Antony’s songs and state-of-the-art stunt sequences turned out to be the highlights of the movie. Thanks to all these things backed by aggressive promotions in media, ‘Velayudham’ has emerged as one of the hits of 2011.

Who is Mani Ratnam’s next Heroni?


We all know that Karthik’s son Gautham will make his debut with ace director Mani Ratnam’s next project, tentatively titled as Pookadai. Rajinikanth’s low-key birthday celebration with family


Superstar Rajinikanth had a low-key birthday celebration this time. The actor spent the day with his family at his farmhouse at Kelambakkam and kept himself out of the media glare.

Sources say that Rajinikanth celebrated his 62nd birthday at his farmhouse. His daughters Aishwarya with her husband-actor Dhanush and Soundarya with her hubby Ashwin were with him on the special day. Meanwhile, Latha Rajinikanth has thanked the fans for performing poojas for his long life. The superstar is on the path of his recovery, assures his wife. Mysskin’s Mugamoodi makes a beginning


Mysskin’s dream project of a super hero Mugamoodi has kickstarted in Chennai.
The UTV Motion Pictures produced film has Jiiva, Narain, Nassar and Pooja Hegde in the cast, with music by K.
The director at the pooja launch of the film was all smiles as the project was lying in the pipeline for years. Many of today’s top heroes were approached for the project which for some reason or other could not take off.
Mysskin is shooting the film in various locations in and around Chennai. A huge set for a Kung Fu fight competition has been erected in a city school. Mugamoodi is the big summer 2012 release.
Mysskin said : ” Mugamoodi is my dream come true. From childhood I have been influenced by super heroes. The film will have some of the best action scenes ever and is being made keeping in mind the possibility of a sequel.”

Karthi shoots for Saguni in Hyderabad


Karthi has moved from Chalakudy where he was shooting for his new untitled Suraj film to Hyderabad for the climax shoot of Saguni.
In Andhra, Karthi has a growing fan base as all his films have done good business when they were dubbed into Telugu.
Now the climax of his Saguni scheduled for release January end is happening in Hyderabad.
The film is said to be a political thriller where Karthi plays a small town guy Kannan who comes to a big city and gets corrupted by the system.
In Hyderabad Karthi went for the audio launch of Venkatesh’s Bodyguard, a remake of Vijay’s Kaavalan.
He was the cynosure of all eyes at the audio launch and stole the thunder from the films hero Venkatesh and heroine Trisha.

Hansika has just completed her final semester as a student of Political Science and will be graduating soon. She somehow managed it amidst her hectic shooting schedule. Her choice of subject has resulted in speculation that like Kushboo with whom she is already earning comparisons for obvious reasons she will also enter into politics.

Jeeva, Narain and Pooja Hegde are so excited working with Mysskin with Sathya in charge of cinematography while K is composing the music for the lyrics penned by Kabilan and Madhan Karky. Mysskin while speaking about this film to the media said, “ This is my dream film. Right from my childhood I have read the stories of super heroes. I have enjoyed it. I wanted to make a film like that. Now I have got the opportunity to do this. I can confidently say that this kind of film has never been made in Tamil so far. Narain is donning the villain role. I know martial arts. Jeeva has also learnt martial arts. Dhilip Subbarayan and Shekar are choreographing the Kung Fu sequences. So far such fighting sequences featuring in this film would not have featured in any Indian films so far. This film is being made with the intention that it should entertain the children as well as the elderly people. I have completed the story of the Part 2 of Mugamudi even before commencing the shooting of the Part 1. There will be five parts.”

Ram Gopal Varma's Unusual 26/11

Maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma always sticks to the unorthodox style of filmmaking. His voracious attraction to real life incidents marks his uniqueness. The director is all set to make a film based on 26/11. The incident will remain undiminished in the hearts of every Indian as the three day live telecast of the ‘Terrorist-Hostages-Police Forces’ drama.

But don’t predict the film to be travelling on the same lines of an action packed thriller drama as Ram Gopal Varma says, “ My attempt now would be not only to capture on film the physical aspect but also the behind the scenes aspect of what exactly happened from the time Kasab and rest of the team landed on Amar Singh Solanki’s trawler in the high seas, till kasab’s heroic capture by the late Tukaram Ombale at Girgaum chowpatty. This will be intercut with what the various gallant police officers did in their attempt to get the situation under control.

Rommel Rodrigues, author of “Kasab the face of 26/11”, who has an extensive and encyclopedic knowledge of the event will be a helping hand to Ram Gopal Varma.

Mankatha’s 100th day celebrated

Mankatha’s 100th day was celebrated at the Short Film Gala 2011 held on December 10th at the Anna Centenary Library Hall. The film’s director Venkat Prabhu along with his team including Premgi, Vaibhav, Mahat Ragavendra, Ashwin, Aravind Akash and editor Praveen K L were present during this event.
The Short Film Gala is an event organized by The Slight Media and Filmgala. During this event the SFG award for short films were given to the winners.
Later, the entire Mankatha team cut a huge cake to mark the celebrations of Mankatha’s 100th day.

Tirumala Devotees condemn Tamannah

During a shooting break, Tamannah and Ram Charan Teja visited the Tirupati Thirumala temple to worship lord Balaji. This visit has Tamannah in the thick of controversy as the actress had worn a pair of jeans and t-shirt.
As per the temple rules, women are required to wear saree or salwar kameez when worshipping the lord. But Tamannah had defied this rule, feel several worshippers who witnessed her visit. The actress however was not available for comments on this issue as she left the temple almost immediately.
