The shooting schedule of the upcoming film titled ‘Mayavaram’ was canceled mid-way and the cast had to return to Chennai in view of the flash strike by the technicians and crew who demanded ‘more wages’.

Director Selvan was recently in the news as he had threatened to undertake a ‘fast’ outside the residence of veteran director K. Balachander protesting against the delay in releasing his directorial venture ‘Krishnaleela’ produced by Kavithalaya. The issue was later sorted out as he was advised against the fast which would send ‘wrong signals’ to the public about the Dada Saheb Phalke-award winning film-maker.

Selvan, who has also directed ‘Suri’ starring Parthiban and Richa Pallod, is presently playing the hero in an upcoming film ‘Mayavaram’ opposite newcomer Inbanila. He is also playing lead role another film ‘Maakkaan’, which is in the making. Trouble erupted when the shooting of ‘Mayavaram’, directed by Ramdev and produced by Vayalar Rajendra, was taking place at Tirumullaivasal near Seergazhi Taluk.

The technicians staged a ‘flash strike’ saying that they would continue to work only if they are paid the revised wages. Talks by the director and others to persuade them to re-start shooting for the film went in vain. Ultimately, the shooting had to be cancelled and the cast of the film returned to Chennai. Producers of various films fear similar ‘strikes’ and are contemplating about what could be done to counter these ‘strikes’.
