Among the current crop of actors who waste no time in ‘assuming’ that they would be the next superstar, actor Ajith has silently created a record which would be very hard to beat. Many of today’s heroes think themselves as the ‘next big thing’ in Kollywood after delivering a few hit films. Ajith, however, is very different from the rest of them.
Though Ajith claimed a few years back that he would be the next superstar of Kollywood, he didn’t take his statement forward and realized later about the hard-work, agony and pain associated with becoming a superstar and the number of successive successes one might have to deliver to be considered so. During this time, he appears to have become a huge fan of superstar Rajinikanth and says he’s ready to play Rajini’s on-screen villain on any given day.

Ajith’s latest film Mankatha was also his landmark 50th film in his career spanning more than 15 years. Trade circles say that the film, which witnessed a tremendous opening at the box-office when released a few months back, has grossed as many as Rs.130 crores as on date, making it the highest-grossing film in the actor’s career. Sun Pictures, which took up the distribution of Mankatha, has confirmed the figures quoted by the trade circles.
Thanks to the film’s highly successful showing, Ajith has become the second-best hero in Tamil films after superstar Rajinikanth in terms of ticket sales. This has obviously upped the business of his upcoming film Billa-2 which would now become a ‘hot cake’ among the distribution circles. Already, Sun Pictures and other major distributors are said to be vying with each other to acquire the film’s distribution rights!
